Most individuals associate people handling training with the health and social care sectors. Certainly organisations in these areas are those in which the lifting, turning and moving of people is an everyday occurrence.
But other sectors also have personnel involved in the occasional handling of people. Most large offices and industrial sites have first aiders, security staff and others responsible for fire drills and emergency evacuation of buildings. Any of these may find themselves needing to move a person who needs assistance to move or walk, or has been involved in an accident and is unconscious.
The Economical Way to Train Staff
Hospitals, care homes and many other organisations therefore have to train their staff in the safe handling of people: safe for those who do the handling as well as those who must be moved. While external courses are fine for one or two individuals from time to time, if you have ongoing numbers of people to be trained, they can prove rather expensive. Under these circumstances, it makes sense to organise in-house training. And it makes even more sense to have in-house trainers, who will bring serious cost savings.
Your instructors could be health care professionals themselves, or they might be health and safety professionals dealing with a range of other issues. They might already have the City and Guilds Manual Handling Train the Trainer Certificate so that they are qualified to instruct personnel who have to lift and move inanimate items. A qualification for training in people handling will add another string to their bows.
