Understanding IOSH

Our 4-day IOSH People Handling: Train the Trainer course is an ever popular programme that provides technical knowledge and training techniques for moving and handling people and patients.  The course is aimed at health and social care professionals such as nurses, care home staff, paramedics, physiotherapists and social workers and gives practical advice on patient handling and support to provide tailored training skills. The course is approved by IOSH.

What is IOSH?

The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) was founded in 1945 and is the world’s largest chartered body for health and safety professionals.  With 40,000 individual members IOSH provides guidance, resources, support and professional advice and is the industry voice for safer working conditions in the workplace for all.  IOSH regularly lobbies governments on health and safety policies and laws and is committed to regulating health and safety policy.
IOSH also accredits qualifications for members, such as Alistair Bromhead Ltd’s People Handling course.  An accreditation from IOSH shows that the highest standards of health and safety have been met and that members have access to the organisations’ broad knowledge and research base on which they can design their courses.  

Code of Conduct

IOSH members must stand by the institution’s professional Code of Conduct.  The Code of Conduct is security of a member’s professional knowledge and conduct. It relates to all the legalities surrounding health and safety and is a commitment to high standards of professionalism at all times.
In IOSH’s own words, The Code of Contuct:

  • Identifies types of behaviour that are unacceptable
  • States that members must be honest and objective in giving their professional opinion
  • States that members must abide by legal requirements relating to their practice or operation
  • Gives advice on how to handle information that is necessary to safeguard health and safety, including guidance on disclosing information and the Data Protection Act
  • Gives guidelines to ensure regulation of the health and safety profession
