We’re pleased to announce that a new certification scheme for inanimate load handlers has been introduced to fill the gap in the market of certification for individuals trained in manual handling. Alistair Bromhead Ltd, in partnership with the National Skills Academy for Materials Production & Supply and Proskills, have developed this scheme to give companies the choice to accredit their trainers with a third party manual handling certificate.

Recognisable Evidence of Manual Handling Competence

While in-house certificates are common for most businesses, a nationally-recognised manual handling certificate for trainees could provide a way to give customers and stakeholders recognisable evidence of handler competence. It could also provide a more saleable training product for those interested in certifying trainees from other companies, such as independent trainers and consultants. There is also an added incentive for trainees to receive a qualification which is transferrable and not just recognised in-house.
Now there’s more choice …
Historically, there has not been much choice in the market for third party handler certification schemes. The schemes which are available often suffer from bureaucracy, high costs, unhelpful customer services personnel and inflexible requirements regarding the form which handler training should take.
The new manual handling certification scheme is open to trainers and manual handlers who have already completed the City & Guilds Manual Handling Train the Trainer course. Therefore, all participants will have adequate evidence of trainer competence, simplifying the registration process. By demonstrating their knowledge, much of the need for the extensive paperwork usually associated with certification scheme registrations is removed.
As well as this, the participants are able, through their experience and knowledge, to direct training duration and format to suit the needs of their trainees. Instead of jumping through hoops to demonstrate competence, trainers are able to receive recognition for their skills through the certification scheme, and therefore the freedom to organise their training how they see fit.
